Team Building Away Days are just some kind of Fun Day Off?
Team building away days are often seen by employees as a sort of fun day off. Yes, you must turn, and you must participate in silly, but it's better than the boring grind of being at work. This is often the attitude of those who live far team building days that were not adequately designed and constructed properly.
Team building away days are much more than a day of fun. They should be fun, sure, but they must also achieve the desired end result, building a team to a higher level of commitment and dedication. These do not achieve this if they are not well planned and executed events. The following 7 steps will help you turn an event into a well thought mediocre success.
1. Plan first. Enter the team questioned about the event. Ask them what they would like to see on team building away days, and be sure to include at least some of the ideas.
2. Establish a clear and defined purpose for the event. Define the away goals in the short term day session and connect to long-term objectives of the company. Demonstrate how the two are connected, and then team building away days relevant to the work of each team member normally carries.
3. Make sure that the event is fun for every member. Monitor the progress of the day with care and attention to boredom and lack of interest. Try to have each team member doing things they enjoy and are good at, rather than throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim.
4. Give some thought to bring in an independent facilitator for the event, preferably a stranger to team members. This being seen as fair and not as a master dictating to them as usual.
5. Ensure that all levels of authority within the corporate team are treated as equals. When ordinary workers are on the same team as their manager, for example, tend to let the manager take and, of course, the operator will naturally tend to do the same. Specify that no team in team building away day, in every position of power until the team democratically decide the case.
6. Conduct a debriefing session after an activity. Make the results of the day interested in working practices place. Try to angle things so that team members can see for yourself how the activities relate to the workplace, rather that they are told.
7. Make sure that what has been learned about them is taken back to the place of work and integrated in practical work.
Team building away days should be fun. Team members should look forward to them, but they must also be aware that there is a serious purpose behind all the fun activities. With this clear, team building events away days can be very successful .......
