Lan and Tam prepare merger to This Year
Although they are sure they will not be in August, as were the original plans, in hope that LAN Enterprise Integration airfare, TAM, will be implemented before the end of the year. The delay in the start of operations of aircraft holding Latam, resulting from the merger of Chile's LAN and TAM is the result of a stay of proceedings by the Tribunal for the Defense of Free Competition after consultation of the National Consumers (Conadeus). Jorge Awad, Chairman of LAN, was confident that the information provided to the agencies that must approve the operation in both countries will clarify all doubts. "Entering the market for air travel in Brazil is really a prerequisite for being in the major leagues, when we have a company that today is among the 10 largest in the world stock market value," said Awad Chilean media.
The biggest controversy is raised by the size that can make these companies together. In itself, acting separately account for the bulk of passenger traffic in Latin America, not only because they offer cheap flights, but also because they come to hundreds of destinations. So it is expected that the merger will come to a sort of monopoly aviation.
Meanwhile, Tam airline, fending off the accusations of his expansionist, denied that negotiations were making buying a percentage of regional TRIP. In a statement sent to the market on Monday, the Brazilian airline TAM Airlines denied rumors published in the newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo that pointed to an alleged intention to purchase a portion of the regional carrier Trip. According to information, TAM would intend to become a minority partner Trip through the acquisition of 20% to 30% of the firm. In the statement, TAM notes that both parties have signed relations since a shared code in May 2004.
